LITJEN. Ill for More Than Three Years, She Passed Away Friday, Jan. 13. Ill since September, 1918, more than three years, Mrs. William Litjen passed away at her home in David City at 6:30 o'clock Friday, Jan. 13, at the age of nearly 64 years. She was a member of the Catholic church. Funeral services were held in St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Father Creed, assistant to Rev. Father Sproll. Theodore Aerts, Charles Brochtrup, Herman Ficke, John Lanspa, August Miller and Peter Vanderheiden were pallbearers. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery, David City. Mrs. Litjen's maiden name was Johanna Vanderloop. She was born in Hollandtown, Brown county, Wisconsin, Feb. 2, 1858. She came to Nebraska and Butler county with her parents in 1879, and was married to William Litjen in 1880. They located on a farm in Center township, living there until moving to David City 12 years ago. Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Litjen, three dying in infancy. The surviving children are Mrs. Charles Roberts of Grant, Mrs. John Fox of Lincoln, Mrs. Russell Lawrence of Kearney, Arnold Litjen of Rushville, George Litjen of Elgin and Mrs. Leonard Zegers, Mrs. Tillie Maule, Mrs. Victor Otoupalik, Mrs. M. C. Demuth and Gilbert Litjen of David City. Mr. Litjen also survives. Mrs. Litjen leaves one brother, Henry Vanderloop, of Cedar Rapids, and three sisters, Mrs. Anton Jansen of Rushville and Mrs. William Browers and Mrs. J. Rutten of Cedar Rapids. All of the Litjen children were at the funeral, as were Mrs. Litjen's sisters and brother. Others here from elsewhere were Charles Roberts of Grant, John Fox of Lincoln, Russell Lawrence of Kearney, Willian Browers of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. George Litjen of Elgin, Miss Jansen of Rushville, Mrs. Max Elias of Columbus and Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Geiger of Ulysses. Mrs. Litjen was a woman who made many friends. She was a good wife and mother, and in addition to [illegible] her own large family of children she reared a step-daughter as one of her own. WILLIAM LITJEN After an illness of more than three years, Mrs. William Litjen passed away at her home in east David City, Friday morning January 13. Her maiden name was Johanna Vanderloop and she was born in Hollandtown, Wisconsin, on February 2, 1858. If she had lived a few weeks longer she would have been 64 years old. She came to Butler County with her parents in 1879 and in 1880 was married to William Litjen. Thirteen children were born to this union, three dying in infancy. She was a good mother to all of them and besides these she raised a step-daughter, Mrs. Arnold Abts, who died sometime ago. Twelve years ago the family moved from the farm to David City where they have since made their home. The children living are Mrs. Leonard Zegers, Mrs. M. D. Demuth, Mrs. Tillie Maule, Mrs. Victor Otoupalik, and Gilbert Litjen of David City, Mrs. Charles Roberts of Grant, Arnold Litjen of Rushville, George Litjen of Elgin, Mrs. John Fox of Lincoln, and Mrs. Russel Lawerance of Kearney. Besides this she leaves her husband, one brother, Mr. Henry Vanderloop, of Cedar Rapids and three sisters, Mrs. Anton Jensen of Rushville and Mrs. Jake Rutten and Mrs. William Browers both of Cedar Rapids. All of the children and the brother and sisters wer present at the funeral. The funeral services were held from the Catholic church here Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock, Rev. Fr. Creed conducting the services. The pall bearers were Pete Vanderheiden, John Lanspa, Hrman Ficke, Theodore Aerts, Chas. Brochtrup and August Miller. Interment was made in the David City cemetery. Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Roberts of Grant, Mr. Arnold Litjen of Rushville, Mr. and Mrs. George Litjen of Elgin, Mr. and Mrs. John Fox of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Lawrence of Kearney, Mrs. Anton Jensen and daughter of Rushville, Mr. and Mrs. William Browers, Mrs. Jake Rutten and Mr. Henry Vanderloop of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Max Elias of Columbus an Mr. and Mrs. C.J.
