He was the first Geatz settler in Allegany County. The Cumberland Times, Cumberland, Maryland, February 27, 1900 "Mr. John Geatz died last night at the home on Cumberland Street, aged 67 years. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul and services will be Wednesday with interment in the SSPP Cemetery."
