The funeral of John A. Fries, wife 3 children, and niece, drowned in the great flood of March 25th, held at St. Michael's Church, at eleven o'clock Monday forenoon, was one of the largest ever held in Brookville, Mr. Fries and family being held in the highest esteem by all who knew them. The sermon by Rev. Schaaf is pronounced the most eloquent and pathetic he has ever delivered. People were present from every section of the county to pay a last tribute of respect, and the business houses were closed from 11 to 1 o'clock. In his death Brookville loses a valued citizen and business man, one who will be missed in every walk in life. " (Brookville Democrat 4-3-1913.)
