They have six children living: Edward (aged twenty years), Ellen (aged eighteen years), George (aged seventeen years), Margaret (aged fourteen years), Frank (aged ten years) and Charles (aged seven years), and buried Elizabeth in 1860 (aged eighteen months). Buried an infant son in 1866. ---------------------------------------------------- Source: The Victor Record 8/5/1908 After a lingering illness of many months duration John Kraft died at his home in Victor Saturday morning, Aug. 1 of dropsy of the heart. John Kraft was born in Germany on Feb. 24, 1831. After finishing his education in the fatherland he engaged in farming until 1852 when he came to America, and after traveling around for some three years he located in Berrien-Co., MI. In 1864 he came to Iowa and located on a fine 200-acre farm in Warren township, Poweshiek county, where he resided until twelve years ago when he purchased the elegant Victor home and removed to it. In October, 1857 Mr. Kraft was married to Miss Elizabeth Bender, who with six of the children born to the union survive. The children are Edward, Ellen, George, Margaret, Frank and Charles, all of whom were in attendance at the funeral except Margaret, who is at present in Northwest Canada. Two children preceded the father to the better land. Elizabeth who died in 1860 at the age of eighteen months, and an infant son who died in infancy in 1866. John Kraft was a good citizen, a kind husband and father and loved by all who knew him, was generous and charitable and gave freely of his abundant store for relief of suffering humanity. The funeral was held at the home on Monday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock attended by a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends. The service was conducted by Rev. Hebener. Burial was at the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
