Democratic Messenger (Eureka, KS.), P. 1, last column Thu., Dec. 16, 1920 John Allison Bower John Allison Bower was born in Millersburg, Ohio, Feb. 18, 1835, and died after a brief illness in Eureka, Kansas, Dec. 12, 1920. He was married to Maria Baer. Three children were born to this union. The wife and two children, William and Iva, preceded him in death. James alone surviving. June 3, 1866 he was married to Louisa Alexander at Putnamville, Ind. Four children were born to this union. All of whom survive him. Mrs. W. F. (R. B.) Eckels (Eckles) of York, Neb., Dr. Mary Bower of Pawnee City, Neb.; Dr. R. A. Bower of Eureka, Kansas, Dr. J. H. Bower of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Also 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren mourn his death. John Allison Bower and family came to Greenwood county by wagon in 1870, bought 1/2 section of school land five miles east of Eureka - improved it and lived on it for about forty years, when he sold the farm and moved with his family to Eureka. He was one of the pioneers of the prairie and endured the privations and hardships of early days. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. P. Mennenoeh. Interment in Greenwood cemetery. The Olpe Optimist (Olpe, KS.), P. 2, Col. 2 Wed., Dec. 22, 1920 The funeral services of John Allison Bower, who died at his home in Eureka, December 12, was held Tuesday afternoon.
