Description	:	John Altherr, age 69, well known resident of Tipton county, died suddenly Sunday morning at 10 o'clock of a heart attack. The sudden illness came without warning and the aged man died before a physician could arrive. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marion Bear of Oak Street, where he and his wife had been making their home for the past year. The sudden illness came without warning and the aged man died before a physician could arrive. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marion Bear of Oak Street, where he and his wife had been making their home for the past year. The funeral services will he held at St. Johns Catholic church Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock and burial will be in the Catholic cemetery here. Mr. Altherr had attended church early in the morning and was apparently in good health. When he returned home and after eating breakfast, he complained of feeling ill and went into the living room where he rested in a chair for a short time. Then came the sudden heart attack and he was dead in fifteen minutes. The deceased was one of the prominent men of the community. He came to this county 42 years ago and until recent years he was actively engaged in farming. He was a respected and well liked citizen with a host of friends who were shocked when informed of his sudden demise. He was subject to heart trouble and about a year ago he was in ill health from this affliction. The deceased was born in Franklin county, April 26, 1855. His parents were Adam and Mary Altherr, who were born in Germany. They grew to young manhood and young womanhood in that country and were married there. Soon after their marriage they came to the United States and in an early day settled in Franklin county, Indiana. There are two sisters of Mr. Altherr surviving, they being, Mrs. Elizabeth Fisher of Indianapolis and Mrs. Barbara Voltz, of California. Mrs. Voltz is in poor health and is unable to make the trip to this state at this time. John's mother died when he was 9 years old and his father when he was 13. When Mr. Altherr was 21 years old he was married to Miss Caroline Ripberger, who survives him. There are six sons and two daughters surviving and all are residents of Tipton and Tipton county. The daughters are Mrs. Mary Bear, at whose home he died, and Mrs. Rosa Hickner, of Maple street. The sons are John R., Edward, Joseph, Frank, Pete and Andy. Mrs. Adam Biltz and Mrs. Frank Ripberger, both deceased, were sisters of Mr. Altherr.
