Description	:	John was the son of Henry Arntz and Dorothy Coedners. August 19, 1887 - Carroll Sentinel - Last Monday morning at 2 o'clock Jim Anderson, one of the night car repairers in the yards here, found the mangled body of a young man lying on the Southwestern track immediately in front of the depot. The horrible discovery was communicated to others in the yard, and the remains were gathered up and carried into the tank. The horrible discovery was communicated to others in the yard, and the remains were gathered up and carried into the tank. The wheels had passed over the body cutting it almost entirely in twain, and had been dragged along over the ties a distance of sixteen feet. The body presented a fearful sight, and the rail and ties were covered with blood, bits of flesh, and entrails. The men in the lunch counters soon identified him as John Arntz, aged 18 years, a son of Henry Arntz, a tailor in Nockels' employ. Agent Holmes and Marshal McAllister took charge of the body, having it washed and properly prepared for burial. The funeral took place from the family home in the west end of town at 1 o'clock, and was largely attended. The most plausible theory to account for the accident is as follows: The boy, who was around the lunch counter until about 11:30, and bought a cigar of Mr. Burger about that time. No. 27 freight train stood on the Southwestern track and pulled out for the west at about the time the boy left the lunoh counter. It is supposed that he made a run to catch the train in order to ride down to the coal chutes, which would bring him within a few rods of his home. No one was about the platform when the train left, so that he was not seen. He probably made a grab at the side of a freight car, missed his footing and fell in between two cars, as the train was moving quite rapidly, he was caught and dragged about 15 feet and then thrown under the wheels and out in two. He was sent the reform school two or three years ago, and had not been home long. He had been running as a newsboy on the Southwestern for four or five days previous to the accident, and seemed to have a great notion for railroad work.
