Description	:	The Harlan County Journal - Alma Nebraska John Baxter Booher, the fourth child of Samuel and Elizabeth Booher, was born in Huntington County Pennsylvania, November 27, 1858 and died at his home near Republican City, Nebr., January 10, 1944, aged 85 years, 1 month and 7 days. He had the misfortune to lose his father, at the age of five years through illness which he had contracted while in service during the civil war. Read More	The Harlan County Journal - Alma Nebraska John Baxter Booher, the fourth child of Samuel and Elizabeth Booher, was born in Huntington County Pennsylvania, November 27, 1858 and died at his home near Republican City, Nebr., January 10, 1944, aged 85 years, 1 month and 7 days. He had the misfortune to lose his father, at the age of five years through illness which he had contracted while in service during the civil war. With her young family of seven children, his mother came west to Iowa City, Iowa, arriving there before that city had a railroad station.Moving further west the new home was established near Tiffin, Iowa. Since the two older brothers worked away from home, it immediately became necessary for Baxter, as he was known to his family, to try to accept a man's responsibility in helping his mother on the farm. He grew to manhood and was married to Miss Ruth Travis, June 6, 1888, at Iowa City, Iowa. They immediately set up housekeeping in anew home which had previously been prepared by the groom near Persia, Iowa. In the spring of 1906, the family moved to an acreage near Republican City, Nebr. at which place he lived until his death. To this union five children were born: Ada Blanche Williams, who died Febr. 20, 1916 at the age of 26, at Denver, Colo.; Elsie Frances Hunter and Nellie of Republican City; John B. of Naponee, Nebr., and Dayle W. of Royal Oak, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two sons, eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and his youngest brother, Samuel C. of Boise, Idaho. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for sixty-four years and was always a faithful attendant as long as he was able.Funeral services were conducted at the home Thursday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. O.W. Michel, assisted by C.R. Catlett the local minister. Miss Ella Hunter sang "Abide With Me" and "Crossing the Bar."She was accompanied by Mrs. J.Frank Lantz. Interment was made in the Republican City cemetery.
