Description	:	OTTUMWA - John Bernard Reeves, 83, of 411 Crestview Ave., died at 1:35 pm Sept. 1, 2011, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. He was born March 31, 1928, in Chariton to John W. and Dorothy Vickroy Reeves. He married Erma Jean Patterson on June 14, 1949, at the First Church of the Open Bible in Ottumwa. He was born March 31, 1928, in Chariton to John W. and Dorothy Vickroy Reeves. He married Erma Jean Patterson on June 14, 1949, at the First Church of the Open Bible in Ottumwa. He graduated from Milo High School in 1946 then served in the U.S.Navy from 1946-48, attending electronics school at Treasure Island in San Francisco. Later he attended Iowa Tech School for two years and subsequently was appointed by Gov. Robert Ray to serve on the Iowa Vocation Training Council. He delighted in his grandchildren. He spent many hours playing baseball with his sons, Kam and Kent, coaching many of their Little League teams and leading one to a city championship. He equally enjoyed listening to his son Kevin play piano and attending many of the plays Kevin acted in or directed. In his youth, he spent much time with his Grandpa Reeves, of whom he spoke often and who remained a hero in his eyes. He was a member of Northgate Alliance Church, where he served on the board and also was a member of the morning Kiwanis. Surviving are his wife, Erma Jean; two sons, Kam Reeves of Ottumwa and Kent(June)Reeves of Marion; four grandchildren, Levi Reeves, Cassie(Jesse)Vargas, Emilie Reeves and Briana(Jack)Johnson; two brothers, Jim(Carol)Reeves of Knoxville and Dan(Dora)Reeves of Hartford; a sister, Martha(Bob)Pfaff of Rosemount, Minn; many nieces and nephews. He has now joined his beloved son, Kevin, deceased in 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Phyllis Williams and Mary Van Syoc. A memorial service will be 1 pm Monday at Reece Funeral Home; Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. His body has been cremated. Private inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B.Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreighn Wars. The family will be present one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice House, Ottumwa, Iowa.
