JOHN BISSETT. — The death occurred at Maryborough on October 15, 1952, of Mr. John Bissett after a brief illness. He was born at Old Deer, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on August 7, 1880. As a youth he joined the Caledonian Railways, his boyhood ambition. He worked for this company in various places in Scotland and it was while working at Hamilton that he met and married Agnes Aiton, of Strathaven, in the year 1906. Deceased remained in the employ of the Caledonian Railways for the next five years, when, with his wife and two children. Nancy and James, he sailed for Australia in the ship, Perthshire, in the year 1911. On arrival at Brisbane deceased was successful in ganing employment with the Qld Government Railways as a fireman, and was transferred to Maryborough. He was resident in Maryborough the rest of his life, and he stayed with the Railway Department until his retirement about six years ago after a long and loyal service as first class driver. Deceased had several complimentary letters praising his efficiency and skill in his capacity as loco engine driver. After his retirement he and his wife journeyed to their homeland where they visited relatives and renewed old acquaintances during a sojourn of nine months. He was of a cheerful and quiet disposition, and was most conscientious and dependable with regard to his railway duties. He was very fond of home life and was attached to his family. He exercised wise counsel and sound judgment in every regard. He was also a very keen gardener. Deceased is survived by his widow, three sons James. Toowoomba; Archie and John, Maryborough; two daughters. Nancy (Mrs. H. Gerber, Toowoomba), Lottie (Mrs. R. Ford Bundaberg); five grandsons and one granddaughter; ' two step-brothers, Alick and Gerrge Bissett, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
