Read More	Obituary from Odebolt Reporter, 4/11/1895: John Bruce died at his home in this city last Sunday after an illness of several weeks. For sometime before his death he had been aware that he could not recover & he calmly made his preparations for the journey to that land from whose born no traveler return. He passed away surrounded by his family & without struggle. He was born July 26, 1822 in Erroll, Karce of Gowrie, Perthshire, Scotland. In his boyhood he moved to Dundee, thence across the Firth of Forth to Newport, Fifeshire, where he resided until he left Scotland. He married Miss Stewart Morrison in Portmogue, Parish, Kinnrosshire on June 5, 1848. They came to America and landed in New York where they remained until December 1854 when they moved to Delaware County, Iowa. Here, four more sons where born, John, Robert, Andrew & one who died when young (William). In 1865, Mrs. Bruce died. In 1874, he came to Sac Co and purchased land in Wheeler Township, living there until 1877 when the town of Odebolt was laid out. In 1876, he married Mrs. Nichols Waugh of Delaware Co, IA. When Odebolt was platted, they moved into town and he was one of the first to erect a house. In the fall of 1884, they left Odebolt, and moved to Fairbury, Nebraska, returning to Odebolt in the Spring of 1891. When 15 years old, Mr. Bruce united with the Presbyterian Church in Forgon, Fifeshire. In 1857 he united with the Methodist Church in Delaware County. He took prominent part in building and organizing the Presbyterian Church at this place when moving here. He was a typical Scotchman, a man of keen insight, ready wit, and tireless energy. His son, John died, after his removal to this country. Survivors include the widow and three sons, James of Wheeler Township, Andrew of Schaller, Iowa and Robert of Reynolds, Nebraska. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon with interment in the Odebolt Cemetery. ∼John Bruce was born in Scotland in 1922. He married Stuart Morrison in Scotland in 1848. They had at least five sons James, William, John, Robert, and Andrew. His wife and sons John and infant son William, preceded him in death. He is survived by his other three sons James, Robert, and Andrew survive him.
