Description	:	Son of Henry R. & Gertrude M. (Zach) Wiehn. He grew up in Elgin and in Columbus where he graduated from Columbus High School. Following graduation from high school, John entered the US Air Force in December of 1976. John spent the majority of his career at Beale Air Force Base in California as an Aircraft Electronics and Environmental Systems Craftsman working on SR71 and U2 aircraft. Following retirement from the Air Force in 1995, John returned to Columbus where he worked for the following companies: Dale Electronics, Reliance Electric, part-time at Super 8 Motel, and Columbus Public Schools, last working at Lost Creek Elementary. John was a community fan of all sports in the Columbus and surrounding area schools which included attending the activities of his nieces and nephews. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and Oakland Raiders fan, NASCAR and local stock car fan, a country music fan partaking in concerts and dancing, and was an avid bowler. John was a member of Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus where he was an usher, greeter, trustee, and served in the children's ministries. He is survived by: Father Henry R. "Telegram" Newspaper: Two Columbus men died in a two-vehicle traffic accident Friday. The accident occurred at 48th Avenue and Conner Drive at about 4:54 p.m. Bradley Hanlin, 33, was traveling southbound on 48th Avenue and crossed the center line hitting a northbound vehicle driven by John Wiehn, 49, according to the Nebraska State Patrol. Restraints were used in both vehicles. The accident is being investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol in Norfolk. Mike Neely, lead pastor at the Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus, said Wiehn had a "servant's heart." "John had a very clear personal faith in Jesus Christ, and he understood that it wasn't a matter of what church you went to, it was the personal relationship. John demonstrated that by serving people, loving people like Jesus loved people," Neely said. Kevin Bennett, the church administrator, knew Wiehn for about 10 years. He said Wiehn was a Columbus High School graduate and lived most of his life here. "He was a quiet, soft-spoken gentlemen," Bennett said. "He was one of those quiet faithful types. He was there (at worship) before most people showed up."
