Burial was in St. Vaclav cemetery. Mr. Cizek’s death was sudden and was a shock to his family and the community generally. He appeared to be in usual good health the day before his death. He was downtown Wednesday morning. About 1 o’clock in the afternoon he was stricken with paralysis, his death occurring at 1 o’clock the following morning. It is said that Mr. Cizek was never before seriously sick in his life, and to the knowledge of his family he never employed a doctor. He was in his seventy-second year. Mr. Cizek was born in Bohemia in June 1853. In his youth he served three years in the Austrian army, and shortly after his discharge he was married in 1877 to Anna Adama. The couple came to America the same year, locating in Tama county. For six months, Mr. Cizek worked on a farm near Chelsea, and then bargained for a farm in Carroll township, which was his home for forty-two Years. Fourteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cizek. Two, a boy and a girl, died in infancy. The couple reared twelve children to manhood and womanhood, six sons and six daughters, all of whom are upright and respected citizens of Tama county. These children, who survive with the wife and mother, are John, Fred, Joe E., Charles, Julia and Will Cizek, Mrs. J.J. Kopecky, Mrs. L. V., Kuchynka, Mrs. Fred Kremenak and Mrs. Will Krezek, all of Clutier and vicinity; Mrs. Amiel Nachazel, of Garwin; and Frank B. Cizek, of Traer. There are nineteen grandchildren. Mr. Cizek was one of a family of five children, of whom he is the first to die. The entire family came to America years ago and made Tama county their home. Three brothers and a sister are yet living in this county—Mike, in Traer; Anton, Garwin; James, Clutier, and Mrs. Joe Kratoska, Chelsea. Frank, of Potter Neb., was the only brother unable to attend the funeral. Mr. Cizek’s parents came to Tama county from the old country the same year that he and his wife located here— 1877. They lived around Chelsea and died many years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Cizek started farming in Tama county without money and with but few worldly possessions. By application of hard work and thrift, they acquired nearly 700 acres of land. After forty-two years in Carroll township they bought 160 acres over near Toledo which they occupied two years. Five years ago, they retired and moved to Clutier. They divided up their land holdings among their children a few years ago except eighty acres in Carroll township and forty acres which they sold. The property divided included about 400 acres in Carroll and the quarter section near Toledo.
