Description	:	This is my direct ancestor that has been documented through Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. Colonial President (Governor). "Chosen moderator of the first meeting under the charter for the colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, and then at the same meeting elected president, May 1647." (From Great Migration Begins) He was buried on his own land in Newport, where his descendants have erected a monument to his memory, and enclosed the little family burial ground with a neat and substantial stone wall. John Coggeshall, son of John Coggeshall "the Younger" and his wife, Anne Butter, was baptized at Halstead, Essex, England on 9 December 1601. From additional info on John's parents and the rest of the family, they lived at or near Castle Hedingham, Essex, England, which is near the town of Halstead. It was Anne Butter Coggeshall's will, dated 16 April 1645 (found by Henry FitzGilbert Waters) that mentions her son, John Coggeshall 'now dwelling in New England' and the names of John's children that tied the president to his mother and father. Some of this info is in old publications (NEHGR, for one) and available for free downloads on Google books.
