Tishue was born in Fayette county, Penn., March 6, 1846. His father, Wm. Tishue and family, moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, in 1855, the mother dying a few days after their arrival. At the opening of the Civil War, when but a boy of 15 years, he with his father, enlisted in Company D, 15th Regiment Iowa Infantry. The father died in the Battle of Shiloh, but the son remained through the entire war, receiving an honorable discharge at the close of the terrible struggle. After the war was over he went west into the Colorado mountains following mining and railroad building as an occupation, living there until the year 1900. He then moved to Seward county to be nearer his relatives, conducting a small country store at Success, which he operated until the last of the year. Last March he was stricken with pneumonia followed by a severe case of paralysis, having been confined to his bed ever since. He died August 6, 1914, aged 68 years and 8 months. He was a man not easily reached in a casual meeting, but by those who knew him best he was known as a man of temperate habits with a very high sense of honor. Thus closes the life of another one of the boys who helped to keep the "Flag in the air and the United States on the map of the world." The last services were held at the home of his brother, Joel Tishue, Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. W. E. Ludwick of the Congregational church.
