The funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock at the Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Earl R. Slutz and Dr. W. H. Shields; interment in Hillsboro Cemetery. Mr. Conard was born in Pennsylvania September 30, 1837, and came to Hillsboro when a young man. He entered the Union army shortly after the outbreak of the Civil War, enlisting in the 12th O.V.I. He was wounded at the battle of Cloyd's Mountain in Virginia. He was shot through the chest the bullets penetrating his lungs and coming out his back. This wound always gave him trouble and had to be dressed almost daily. He suffered the horrors of Libby prison for four months. On September 28, 1869, he was married to Miss Ellen Chaney, who survives him. Shortly after the close of the war Mr. Conard was employed in the service of the United States Internal Revenue Deparment and with the exception of four years, when he was the deputy county treasurer under E. O. Hetherington, continued in the service until a few months before his death. Mr. Conald was a man of high character and real worth, always standing for those things which he believed to be right.
