Canon, pioneer of this community, died at the family Farm northeast of Greeley last Thursday. He had been in feeble health for several months. He was 91 years old. Funeral services were held at Scared Heart Church Saturday sand the Requiem Mass. Burial was in the family plot in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pall- Bearers were three grandsons, James, Robert and Patrick Ryan and three nephews James Gerald and Robert Cannon. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. William Peterson and John Cannon both of Chicago; Joe Cannon Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Willnerd and son Decatur, Nebr; Mrs. Pat Merriman, Council Bluffs; Matt Merriman, Wolbach; Mrs. Joe Murphy and Children Omaha; John Burns, Scotia; and Martin Peterson Spalding, Ne. Mr. Cannon was born in County Donegal, Ireland, in 1859, the son of Thomas and Sarah Cannon. At an early age he came to the United States, first settling in Missouri Where he worked on a farm. From there he went to Leadville Col. Where he worked in the smelter. Later he moved to Anaconda, Mont. He was a railroad employee at Anaconda. In 1885 he came to Greeley and settled on a farm in Freeman, Valley precinct where he lived until the time of his death. Mr. Cannon was married to Miss Mary Merriman October 9, 1899, at O'Connor. The late Father Hayes Officiated at the marriage. Surviving are his wife, three daughters and four sons. The daughters are Mrs. John J. Ryan and Mrs. Harold Mefford, both of Greeley and Mrs. William F. Peterson of Chicago and Joe of Detroit. A sister Mrs Mary Nealon also survives. He leaves twenty-two grand children and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Denis, James and Thomas.
