Description	:	John Davelaar, 85, of Sioux Center, died unexpectedly Friday, July 27, 1990 at Fellowship Village Nursing Home in Inwood. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Robert Holwerda officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Visitation was held at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Visitation was held at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Mr. Davelaar was born Oct. 2, 1904 in the Netherlands, the son Mr. and Mrs. Henry John and Cornelia (Vander Pol) Davelaar. He moved with his parents to the United States in 1911 to Chandler, Minn., and attended school there. He married Nellie Wassink Feb. 2, 1934, at her parents' home in Sioux Center. After their marriage, they farmed near Sioux Center until their retirement in 1963, when the moved to town. On June 26, 1989, they moved to the Fellowship Village Nursing Home in Inwood. He was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church and served as an elder of the consistory. He also served on the Christian school board in Sioux Center. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Henry John and Mary of Bigelow, Minn., Bill and Hertilda of Maurice, Iowa, Arnold and Linda of Anacortes, Wash., Floyd and Joyce of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Gerrit and Eleanor of Inwood; three daughters, Carolyn Ploegstra of Denver, Colo., Florence and Orville Kooiman of Sioux Center, and Nelvia and Dave Sterkenburg of Wyoming, Mich.; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bertha Schiebout of Edgerton, Minn. He was preceded in death by three children, Marvin and Muriel, infant twins, and Helen, an infant daughter; one great-grandchild, Wesley Davelaar, and one sister, Jennie Kuhl.
