Research appears to have discounted this, as incorrect, and his parents determined to be William Deweese, Jr. and Mary 'Polly' Deweese. On arriving at years of maturity he married Lottie Rose and soon afterward removed to Ohio, locating in Tippecanoe, Miami County, during the days of its pioneer development. A few years later he went to Darke County, settling in a region so densely timbered that a path had to be blazed on the trees in order that they might find their way to the settlement. There in the midst of the forest, Mr. Deweese cleared a tract of land and developed a farm, upon which he reared his family of fourteen children, giving to each one of them a farm as they reached mature years....he has added to his original homestead until his landed possessions aggregated seven hundred acres. He not only became well-to-do but was a very prominent and influential citizen and he bore an important part in the early progress and development of his region. His first wife [m 1826] was Charlotte 'Lottie' Rose; second wife [m 1834] Sarah Smith[widow Frazier] [and third wife [m 1845] Christina Houser [widow of Michael McDorman] Please note: John did have a daughter Mary, 1835-1889, who married William Harrison Swallow. Someone has incorrectly edited another Mary Deweese Swallow 1925-1906 as his child and attempts to remove her have gone unanswered Nov 2018.
