Description	:	John Dickson, for many years a well-known resident of Canonsburg, died at his home, 218 Belmont avenue, early on Sabbath morning, June 15, 1919, after an illness which continued thru several months. Mr. Dickson was born in Cecil township, Washington county, on July 6, 1842. He attended school in what, is known as the Reed school district. While a youth he learned the trade of a carpenter. Mr. Dickson was born in Cecil township, Washington county, on July 6, 1842. He attended school in what, is known as the Reed school district. While a youth he learned the trade of a carpenter. On December 24, 1895, Mr. Dickson was united in marriage with Miss Rebecca Coulter of Hickory. Mrs. Dickson died April 11, 1918. In 1879 Mr. Dickson embarked in the lumber business with John McDowell of this place. Their place of business was Burgettstown. In 1881, Messrs. McDowell and Dickson purchased the Canonsburg planing mill from Berry and May and continued to operate it until 1905, when they sold out to the Pittsburgh Casket Company. The firm was burned out in the great fire of November 14, 1898, but rebuilt and continued in business until the time above given Mr Dickson, was a member of the Chartiers United Presbyterian Church. He was a man of good mind intelligent, quiet in his manner, gentlemanly, but of firm convictions, and not to be swayed from what he believed to be right. In business as in social life, he had high standing. He was a force for good in the community. Mr. Dickson was the last of his family. The last of his four sisters having died several years. ago. The only relatives surviving are a number of nephews and nieces who reside in different parts of the country. The funeral services will be held at the Dickson home, 218 Belmont avenue, on Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 and will be conducted by Dr. W. P. Aikin. To these services friends are invited.
