MOREHOUSE John Doren Morehouse was born at Litchfield, Michigan, on May 1st, 1849, and departed this life on June 15th, 1928, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Thurber at Edgar, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, 2 month and 15 days. When a small boy he moved with his parents to Morgan county (sic), Illinois, where he grew to manhood. On September 10th, 1871, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth May Williams at Jacksonville, Illinois, who was privileged to remain his faithful and devoted wife for 50 years, 3 months and 11 days, until her death on December 21, 1921. To this union was born six children, all of whom are left to mourn the departure of a loving father: Mr. G. A. Morehouse, Burton, Nebr.; Mrs. Charles Sims, Edgar, Nebraska; Mrs. Frank Thurber, Edgar, Nebr.; Mr. J. E. Morehouse, Benkelman, Nebr.; Mr. W. N. Morehouse, Belvidere, Nebr. and Mrs. Cloyd Lorenz, Craig, Nebr. In 1882 Mr. Morehouse came to Nebraska and located on a farm. He farmed 3 miles east of Edgar on the place known as the Johnny Powell farm. Later he took up the mercantile business in Davenport and later conducted a meat shop in Steele City which he maintained until his heart failed then he and his wife moved to Belvidere where they remained until her death. Since that time he has lived with his children. Since the death of his wife he has made his home with his children, all of whom were with him during the last week of his illness. Since childhood he has been a member of the Methodist church, a faithful attendant of its services and a sincere believer in its principles. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the M. E. church (sic) in Edgar conducted by Rev. Caldwell of Ong assisted by Rev. Johnson. Interment was made in the Edgar cemetery (sic).
