Description	:	John Dourdan Reeves is believed to have been the eldest son of Jesse and Fortune Reeves of Northhampton, Halifax and Bladen Counties North Carolina. He was born in Halifax County in 1759. His parents moved to Bladen County by 1768. They died in 1778, when he was 19 years old. He volunteered in the Revolutionary War in 1780, fighting until the end of the war. In Cumberland County 1788-89, John D. Reeves married Sarah ("Sally") Locke Elwell. Sometime before 1800, John D. Reeves moved to Surry County NC, as he is listed there in the 1800 Census.... There he lived on his farm for the rest of his life. His wife and mother of all his children, Sally Elwell Reeves died by 1810. He married Eleanor Howard on June 8, 1811. John Dourdan Reeves was buried on his home farm (afterward called the Flippin place) under a pine, about a mile from the mouth of the Ararat River. The exact place of his grave has been lost.
