Kucera was born at Irving, Benton County, Iowa, October 7, 1907, and passed away December 1, 1943, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, where he had spent three weeks following an accident. He received his grade schooling at Irving and Toledo, Iowa, and his high school at Belle Plaine and Toledo, graduating In May, 1927. He then worked on the high line for the Electric Light Company at Toledo. On February 1, 1933, he was married to Mildred Wisner at Toledo, Iowa, after which they started farming on his father's farm east of Irving. After five years on the farm he moved to Toledo, where he worked a t Ben's Department store for a while and later managed an oil station for some time. The family then moved to Belle Plaine, where he worked for Glenn Case and Bert Tarvestad in the produce station. Three years ago he moved back on his father's farm, which was his home at the time of his death. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kucera, Leonard John, who passed away in August, 1935, at the age of 1 year and 28 days; Norma Jean, who passed away January 14, 1937, at the age of 7 weeks; and Donald Paul, 5 years old, who is now at the University Hospital, Iowa City. Mr. Kucera is survived by his wife, Mildred; his son, Donald Paul; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Kucera; one sister, Mrs. Julia Allen, of Odin, Minnesota; one brother, Fred Kucera, of Elberon. One brother passed away in infancy. He Is also survived by five nieces, several aunts and uncles and a number of cousins. Mr. Kucera was a member of the Z.C.B.J. lodge of Irving for almost 11 years. He has held the offices of president, of secretary, and a t the present time was a past president of the lodge and the janitor of the lodge hall at Irving. Funeral services were held at Hrabak's Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, December 4, in charge of Rev. W. O. Warren of Christ Methodist Church.
