Read More	Cemetery Caretaker 1972-2005 MONTROSE-- John E. "PeeWee" Fowler, 87, of Montrose, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, in the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City. A lifelong resident of Montrose, he was born on Sept. 22, 1917, on a farm south of Galland, to William and Lula Dell Noonan Fowler. He was united in marriage to Frances Mae Ward on July 28, 1946, in Houghton. She preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 2003. He served in the United States Army from October 1942 to November 1945, and spent 38 months in the European Theatre during World War II. He attended Ashland Country School, Montrose Elementary School and graduated from Montrose High School with the Class of 1936. In 1941, he and his father ppurchased the Kerr and Kennedy Hardware and stated the Fowler Hardware business. He owned and operated Fowler Plubing and Heating for 25 years. Later, he was employed by the City of Montrose, where he operated the water and sewer plant and acted as the Montrose Cemetery Sexton for many yyears. He also worked for Golden acres Construction. He served two terms on the Montrose City Council and acted as the Monrtose city clerk for five years. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the Montrose Fire Department for 46 years and served as the fire chief for two terms. He enjoyed and took great pride in working at the Montrose Cemetery. He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include: three sons, James R. Fowler of Green River, Wyo., Edwin W. Fowler and his wife, RaeLynn of Fort Madison, and Ronald A. Fowler of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grandchildren, Micole R. Fowler, Brandon R. Fowler and Jason J. Fowler and his wife, Renea; two great-grandchildren, Delilah L. Fowler and Alexandra L. Fowler; two sisters, Vida S. Curtis of Des Moines and Ruth U. Davis of Montrose. He also was preceded in death by a son, Richard Paul Fowler in 1984; three brothers, Louis, Ivor and Robert Fowler; and two sisters Minnie Bradock and Wilma Hailey. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Dr. Jim Eades officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the Montrose Cemetery. Visitation is today at Vigen Memorial home in Keokuk, with the family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Montrose Cemetery or Montrose Volunteer Fire Department.
