Strickland, fifth son of Armagie and Charlotte Strickland was born near Floris, Iowa, July 10, 1858, and died at his home in Floris, Oct. 24, 1919, aged 61 years, three months and fourteen days. Strickland, fifth son of Armagie and Charlotte Strickland was born near Floris, Iowa, July 10, 1858, and died at his home in Floris, Oct. 24, 1919, aged 61 years, three months and fourteen days. His father and mother were the parents of nine children -- five sons and four daughters. Two brothers Wm., and Phillip and two sisters Mrs. Nan Russell and Mrs. Mary Hill preceded him in death. Two brothers, Samuel and Jacob, and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Peden and Mrs. Lottie Hancock, all of Floris and vicinity, survive. All of his brothers and sisters lived to have families of their own. In 1860 the Stricklands returned to Indiana. Five years later they returned to the homestead near Floris. Here in 1870 the father died. Three years later, the mother having married again, the family left the farm. On December 18, 1879, the deceased was united in marriage with Sarah Kneedler. To them were born two daughters. The wife and daughters, Mrs. Ida McVey of Ottumwa and Mrs. Ethel Patterson of Floris, survive the husband and father. Under the ministry of D.W. Hastings, John and his wife obeyed the gospel, being baptized Dec. 15, 1887. He lived the faith he professed and died in its consolation and triumph. Funeral services were held at the Floris Christian church, Sunday, Oct. 26, conducted by D.W Hastings, assisted by W.F. McCormick. One of the largest audiences that has assembled in the church for years was present. Six nephews of the deceased were pall bearers; Alva and Elroy Strickland, sons of his brother Phillip; Ode Strickland, son of his brother Jacob; Emery Peden, son of his sister, Martha; Lessie Hill, son of his sister, Mary; and Emmett Hancock, son of his sister, Lottie. The body was laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
