A physician was summoned, but life was extinct. He was then removed to his home. Mr. Barnett was a man of pleasant disposition which made him many friends who were indeed sorry to learn of his passing. John Eden Barnett, son of John S and Mary Barnett, was born in Lawrence County, Ohio, January 1, 1849, and passed away Friday, February 20, 1925, at the age of 76 years, one month and 19 days. At the age of five years he removed with his parents to Mahaska County, Iowa. The entire journey was made by steamboat by way of the Ohio, Mississippi and Des Moines rivers. The final landing being made within 1 mile of his late home, where he had grew to manhood, founded his home and was a resident till the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Lovisa Underwood December 25, 1869. To this union were born nine children, four of whom preceded their father and death, three having died in childhood and James who died October 22, 1913. Those mourning his death are the widow and five children: Grant of Albia, John M. of Knoxville, Mrs. May Ogden of Albia, Mrs. Lulu B. Chilton of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Margaret Rustan of Eddyville; 19 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Barnett was a devoted husband and a kind and loving father. His family was always first with him. He affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church at the age of 19 years. He was a member of camp No. 1837 M.W. of A. and the oldest surviving member of Eddyville Lodge No. 74 A.M. and A.M., and would have been 50 years a Mason next year. The funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal Church on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. A.S. Kilbourn officiating and the Masons in charge. Internment was made in Highland Cemetery.
