Description	:	John Edler, a well known German farmer in Marshall and Story counties, and a pioneer settler in the French Grove community north of town, died at his home in this place at about 4 o'clock Saturday morning. He had been in poor health for several years, but his last illness was of short duration. Death was due to cancer of the bladder. Read More	John Edler, a well known German farmer in Marshall and Story counties, and a pioneer settler in the French Grove community north of town, died at his home in this place at about 4 o'clock Saturday morning. He had been in poor health for several years, but his last illness was of short duration. Death was due to cancer of the bladder. Mr Edler retired from the farm and moved to town about three years ago. Mr Edler was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, September 12, 1840. He came to this country in 1869 and settled on a farm in this county. He was married August 16, 1874 to Miss Alvine Eckhart, who survives him with twelve of their thirteen children. They are Mrs H C Riemenschneider, Mrs H L Lee, Mrs August Opperman, Emma, Amanda, Henry A, Edward C, Albert A, John R and Walter, all of State Center, and William L of Hubbard. Besides these Mr Edler has a brother living in Germany and a half sister, Mrs W Wheeler who lives in Madrid, Iowa. Mr Edler had been a member for many years of the French Grove Lutheran church and the funeral was held from that place at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, the pastor, Rev Henry Markworth having charge. Burial was made in the church cemetery. May 22, 1913 State Center Enterprise.
