The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, January 8, 1949 ============================ John Elmer Alexander was born in Christian County, Illinois May 19, 1871, and passed away January 5th, 1949, at his home in Edgar, Nebraska, at the age of 77 years. In his early youth he moved to Bird City, Kansas, with his parents and later to Thayer County, Nebraska, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Mable May Benjamine January 27, 1899, at Hubbell, Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Alexander would have been married fifty years the 27th of this month. To this union were born six children, all living. In the spring of 1904 the family moved to Nuckolls county (sic). There they resided until moving to Edgar in 1939. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Edgar. He leaves to mourn his death: his wife, Mabel Alexander, and six children: Mrs. Bell Karraker, Venango; Mildred Velair Miller, Glendale, Calif.; John Elmer, Denver, Colorado; Frank Maynard, Winter Haven, Florida; L. Bruce, San Marino, California; and four grand children; one sister, Mrs. Mae Thomas of Shenandoah, Iowa. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 8, at 2 p.m. at the Edgar Presbyterian Church with John W. Howard in charge. J.M. McGhie, Harold McGhie, C.B. Smith, Jr. and John W. Howard sang "Beautiful Land" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. C.B. Smith, Jr. was at the organ. Pallbearers were Charles Bush, Clark Kinnison, Nels Larson, Harry Wheeland, Asa White and Bruce Young.
