Frazer, mention of whose death was made in these columns last week, was born on March 4, 1863 at Winchester, Indiana, and in 1861 moved with his parents (James Frazer 1829 to 1890 and Phoebe Smith Frazer 1826 to 1856)), to Iowa where the family resided for many years. Mr. Frazer was married in Iowa in 1877, to Miss Emma Woods, to which union four children were born, all of whom survive. This happy family circle was broken by the death of the wife and mother and shortly after the passing away of the mother, the father and children came to Kansas, locating on a homestead near LaCrosse, Rush County, Kansas, where he lived until 1884, when he purchased the LaCrosse Chieftain and served as its editor for five years. He disposed of the paper in 1889 and came to Harvey County, Kansas, purchasing the old home farm northwest of town which has since been the family home. Mr. Frazer was again married in 1889 to Miss Florence Pearson at LaCrosse, who with the four children are left to mourn his departure. The children are Mrs. Maude McDaniels of Hutchinson, KS, Herman Frazer of Los Angeles, CA, John Frazer of San Diego, CA and James G Frazer of Halstead, KS. Other surviving relatives are two sisters, Mrs. Huebert Frederick and Mrs. Clark W Tracy of Oskaloosa, Iowa and two brothers, Rev. C. W. Frazer of Jacksonville, Florida and Anuel Frazer of North Loop, Nebraska. Mr. Frazer had always taken an interest in politics and served the people in several different capacities. He was elected to the state legislature in 1892 and again in 1894 and was chosen county superintendent of public instruction in 1906 and in 1908. He was a leader of the Republican Party in the county and served several years as county chairman. He was a kind and indulgent husband and father, with an amiable disposition which made him a source of comfort to all who came in contact with his genial personality. He lived a clean and upright Christian life and always considered it a pleasure to promote the happiness of others. Those who knew him best, loved him most and with all who came in contact with him in his everyday life, the general opinion is that a truly good man has gone to his eternal reward. The deceased was a familiar figure on our streets and always had a pleasant salutation for those whom he met on his frequent visits to town. He was an industrious and hard-working farmer, who by his labor and good business management had gained a competence which would have permitted him to live a life of ease, but was reluctant to leave the farm, rather enjoying the life of a farmer. Mr. Frazer had since early childhood been a member of a Quaker Church, but upon coming to Harvey, County, Kansas, he united with the First Methodist Church and remained a faithful member until his death. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Methodist Church, following a short service at the home, and was conducted by Rev. Dan Pickett, of Eudora, Kansas, a cousin of the deceased. Rev. Pickett was assisted by Rev. W. W. Owen, the pastor, who read he Scripture lesson and sang a solo. Other music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. Ed Gilbert, Miss Avis Miller, Rev. Owen and Robert Frizzell. The Church was well filled with friends of the departed, who had gathered as a last tribute to the one they loved so well. Many beautiful floral offerings covered the casket, as silent tokens of esteem. Pallbearers were chosen among friends of many years standing and were Chas. D. Masters, George A. Hinkle, Dave Thomas, Wm H. Lehmeyer, Henry Ewy, and C. H. McBurney of Newton, Kansas. Interment was made in the City Cemetery.
