Description	:	John Fender was born in Lee county, Illinois, April 21, 1842, and departed this life September 20, 1925, at Seward, Nebraska, being 83 years and 5 months of age. He grew to manhood in Lee county, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Catherine Schick February 21, 1864. To this union eight children were born, four sons and four daughters. One daughter died in infancy. The living are Mrs. Perry Terwilliger, Palmyra, Nebraska; Mrs. Fred Bye, Dorchester, Nebraska; Mart Fender, Lincoln; Mrs. Jake Imig, Seward; Guy Fender, Bennington, Kansas; Fred Fender, Havelock; Bert Fender, Culver, Kansas. The living are Mrs. Perry Terwilliger, Palmyra, Nebraska; Mrs. Fred Bye, Dorchester, Nebraska; Mart Fender, Lincoln; Mrs. Jake Imig, Seward; Guy Fender, Bennington, Kansas; Fred Fender, Havelock; Bert Fender, Culver, Kansas. There are fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Besides his immediate family are five sisters and one brother. The sisters are Mrs. Jake Huffman, Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. Charles Schick, Shenandoah, Iowa; Mrs. John King, Centralia, Kansas; Mrs. Frank Cahill, Paxton; Mrs. Henry Jones, Greeley, Colorado; while a brother is Charles J. Fender of Seward, besides a host of other relatives and friends. He, with his family, moved to Mills county, Iowa, in 1872, where he had bought a farm. Then in the spring of 1881, thinking they needed more land, they decided to go west and settled on a farm seven miles north of Seward, just across the road from the town of Bee. His wife died several years ago. Since then he has made his home with his children, his brother Charles, and the latter's children. He was an honest, hard working man and was respected by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held at the home of Charles J. Fender at 2 o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. L. F. Townsend of the M.E. church, and the remains will be laid to rest in the North cemetery. Seward Independent Democrat, Seward, NE, September 24, 1925
