Born in River Philip, he was a son of the late Clarence and Mary (McLellan) Hewson. John was a veteran of the Second World War and served with the RCAF. He was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church in Oxford. He was also a member of the Winburn Masonic Lodge, Oxford for 55 years and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 36 for 51 years. John served as a town councillor with the Town of Oxford. For over 50 years, he owned and operated John F. Hewson Construction. He loved the outdoors and spending time at the farm property in Williamsdale. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Marguerite Cloney; daughters, Patricia Lynn Hewson, Oxford; Margaret Belle Talbot, Halifax; Lisa Jon Hewson, Canning; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Paterno, Milford, Conn., and Belle Harris, Rancho Viejo, Tex. He was predeceased by daughters, Linda and Mary; brothers, Boyd and James; sisters, Mildred, Ella, Anna, and Fanny. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 6, with Masonic Lodge service at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 6, and funeral service at 2 p.m. Monday, April 7, all in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main St., Oxford, Rev.
