Description	:	John Flax, 80, a longtime resident of the Ransom community, died Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Grisell Memorial Long Term Care Center in Ransom. Born May 19, 1904, at Ellis, he moved to Ness County in 1921 and to Ness City in 1970. He was a retired farmer and stockman. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church at Ness City and the Knights of Columbus at Ransom. He is survived by four brothers, Joe of Ransom, Leo of Dodge City, Rudy of WaKeeney and William of Ness City; and two sisters, Katherine Kisslinger of Ransom and Regina Augustine of Salina. The funeral mass was Monday morning at the Sacred Heart Church with Father John Strasser the celebrant. Con-Celebrants were Msgr. George N. Stewart and Father Joseph Bahr. Burial was in St. Aloysius Cemetery at Ransom. Ness Co. News, Oct. 11, 1984 ------------------------- John C. Flax, 45, son of Joseph and Theresa (Weber) Flax, passed away Thursday, April 24, at Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom. Born at Ransom, January 28, 1935, he married Rosella Friess on August 18, 1958 in Ransom. He attended grade and high school in Arnold. After graduation from high school he attended a trade school in Chicago. He owned and operated J & R Auto Supply in Ransom until illness forced him to give up his business about a year ago. He served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa as an AP4, from May 19, 1955 until May of 1957. He was discharged from the Army Reserves in April of 1963. He was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Ransom, the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, the American Legion of Brownell, an associate member of the V.F.W. in Ransom, and was past mayor of Ransom. He also served as Grand Knight for the K. of C., and as a member of the school board in Ransom. He was preceded in death by his mother, his brother, George, and a son, Aaron. Survivors include: the widow of the home; daughters, Michelle of Ransom and Yvonne of the home; sons, Greg and Tom of the home; father, Joseph Flax; brothers, Joseph I. and Albert of Arnold, Paul Flax of Salina, Francis and Leonard of Ransom; sisters, Mrs. Earl (Mary) Prather of Hoisington, Mrs. Frank (Martha) Peschka of Salina, Sister Doris Marie Flax of Leawood, and Catherine Flax of Chicago, Ill. Funeral services were held from St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Saturday, April 26, at 10 o’clock with Father Dennis Reed officiating. Interment was in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Ransom, with Fitzgerald Funeral Home in charge. Honor Guard and Presentation of the Flag was made by the Dale Sunley Post, Brownell, ad the Color Guard of the Ransom V.F.W. Post. Ness Co. News, May, 1, 1980
