Craig County was not formed until 1851. After 1851, when John Floyd was eight years old, the area where John Floyd Walker was born and was his family homeplace became Craig's Creek, Craig County, Virginia. Magdalene Walker was the mother of the first seven children of George H. Walker: Mary Jane Walker (05 Nov 1836-31 Oct 1863), Sarah Frances Walker (13 Jun 1838-22 Sep 1898), Martha Ann Walker (25 Mar 1841-30 Aug 1912), John Floyd Walker (07 Jun 1843-21 Apr 1904), George Thomas Walker (11 Jun 1849-29 Aug 1898), Ellen Lewis McGarre Walker (29 Sep 1855-16 Oct 1857), Annie Walton Dingess Walker (05 Nov 1858-05 Jan 1920). They were full siblings of John F. Walker. ----------------------------------- By the time the Civil War ended, George H. Walker moved his family to Giles County, Virginia. The letter letting his sons know of the move did not reach them. John Floyd first went to his homeplace before the war in Craig County to discover his father had moved the family to Giles County. -------------------------- George Walker married Sarah Bracken McClaugherty on 17 Nov 1868 in Giles County, Virginia, eight years after his first wife's death. Sarah Bracken McClaugherty was the daughter of Hugh and Mary Davis Alexander McClaugherty. Her father, Hugh McClaugherty was a first cousin of Magdalene C. McClaugherty Walker. George and Sarah Walker were the parents of five children: Gertrude McComas Walker (08 Sep 1869-29 Aug 1895), Lena Alexander Walker (19 Dec 1874-29 Apr 1959), Harry Snidow Walker (28 Apr 1876-27 Apr 1949), Margaret Davis Walker (Abt. 1878) and Virginia Walker (Abt. 1880). They were half-siblings of John F. Walker. ---------------------------------- John Floyd Walker and Margaret Elizabeth Austin Jones were married by Rev Chapman Lucas at Clover Hollow, Giles Co., Va on 1 Feb 1872. The marriage bond dated 30 Jan. 1872 is recorded in Giles County records. She was the daughter of Hiram Tracy and Christina Echols Jones and was born 13 Jul 1855 in Clover Hollow, Giles Co., VA, and died 30 Apr 1928 in Giles Co., VA.
