Description	:	Civil War veteran, John F. Mackey, died at the home of his daughter, Emma Leona Mackey, of Glenmont. Death was due to infirmities of old age. Military funeral services were in charge of the Holmes Post of the American Legion and Rev. Jordan of Glenmont. Military funeral services were held from the Glenmont Christian Church. Burial was made in the Glenmont cemetery. The war veteran is survived by the following children: five sons, Joseph of Knoxville, Tenn., Sherman, Sanford, Rudy O., and David all of Glenmont, and by five daughters: Myrtle Mackey of Cleveland, Nora Belle Schaffter of Rittman, Laura Fortune of Millersburg, Tessie McElroy of Mansfield, and Emma Leona Mackey of Glenmont. Mr. Mackey enlisted in the Union Army when about 20 years old. He was in the army for three years and saw much active service, having participated in several important battles. At the close of the war, Mr. Mackey returned to his home in Holmes County and a short time later married Missouri Kimball/Kimble; she died in 1875. A few years later, he was married to Mary Jane Neal. His second wife preceeded him in death in 1904. Also preceeding him in death were sons, Jeremiah Mackey and John Henry "Johnny" Mackey and a daughter, Bessie Faye Boss. John Mackey served as private in Co. A, 102nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted on July 29, 1862 at age 21 years, and served until mustered out on June 10, 1865 at Columbus, Ohio.
