Description	:	John F. McEwen was born in Decatur County, Ind., March 21, 1846 and departed this life August 26, 1910 at his home near Winfield, Kansas. In the fall of 1847 he moved with his parents to Mahaska County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On December 28, 1865 he was married to Caroline Venator at the family residence in Wapello County, Iowa. To this union were born seven children, six sons and one daughter: T. S. McEwen was born in Decatur County, Ind., March 21, 1846 and departed this life August 26, 1910 at his home near Winfield, Kansas. In the fall of 1847 he moved with his parents to Mahaska County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On December 28, 1865 he was married to Caroline Venator at the family residence in Wapello County, Iowa. To this union were born seven children, six sons and one daughter: T. S. McEwen of Atlanta, Kansas; C. A. McEwen, now deceased; D. B. McEwen, Burden, Kansas; J. L. McEwen, Atlanta, Kansas; Mrs. Annie Brooks, Edmond, Oklahoma; L. C. McEwen, Battle Creek, Michigan and Fred at home. He united with the Baptist Church at Fremont, Iowa at about the age of twenty years, to which faith he remained faithful until his death. On Friday morning, August 26, the Lord called him away from us, to take as we think a higher place, and as the good book says, a rest in Heaven. Brother McEwen was one among the oldest residents in his neighborhood, having lived there about thirty years, and a man that was well beloved, should we judge by the large audience, who attended his funeral held at the residence at 2 p.m. and was conducted by William Davis of Burden, Kansas after which the remains were laid to rest in the new Salem Cemetery.
