Groth, who passed away Sunday evening, July 26, 1931, at seven o'clock at the Grandview Hospital at La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he had gone for medical treatment. The deceased was fifty years, 4 months and 3 days of age at the time of his death. Although he had been in poor health for several years, no one realized just how severe his sickness was. He was the son of Fred and Louise Groth of this city, and was born on a farm near Osterdock on March 23, 1881. The deceased was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Overbeck on September 26, 1906, in Guttenberg, Iowa. To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters, one daughter preceding him in death in infancy. During his early period of married life, he resided at Osterdock and later moved to Guttenberg, where he established a garage business in which he was successfully engaged for a number of years. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge of this city and a faithful member of the St. Paul's Church. He is survived by his wife and three children: Howard, of Colesburg, and Alva and Eva at home. Also his mother, Mrs. Louis Groth, one sister, Mrs. Clyde Barnhart, of Colesburg; three brothers, Will and Fred, of Guttenberg, and James, of Elkport. His father and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the St. Paul's United Lutheran Church, Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Lawson. The Masonic Lodge had charge of of the services at the grave. Interment was made in the city cemetery.
