Description	:	John Fred Siegel, son of Jacob Siegel and Barbara [nee Jaekle],was born February 25, 1836, in Wuertenberg, Germany. He came to America with his parents and brothers and sisters in 1851. The family settled first in New York and then in Outagamie County, Wisconsin. He was one of a family of 14 children. Mr. Siegel enlisted in Co. A 18th Wisconsin infantry in April 1864 and was honorably discharged July 1865. In 1879 he moved to Cherokee County and settled on his farm in Spring Township where he lived until Oct. 6, 1918, when he moved to Cherokee. In 1879 he moved to Cherokee County and settled on his farm in Spring Township where he lived until Oct. 6, 1918, when he moved to Cherokee. He was married first to Christena Dexter who died in 1870 leaving him with two small boys, Albert Allen and Ransford. In September 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Regina Fuller and to this union were born: Alice, Stephen, William, Lydia and Genia. In April 1892 he was again bereaved of his faithful wife and he was married a third time to Mrs. Emily Callahan Hill on Nov. 9, 1892. Their union was blessed with two children, Fred J. and Ester, their devoted mother having gone to her rest on January 18, 1921. Since that time the father made his home at intervals with three of his children and departed this life at the home of his youngest son Fred J. near Marcus at 12:30 a.m. on August 19, 1929. Cherokee Daily Times, Cherokee, Iowa, Friday, August 23, 1929 Tombstone incorrectly shows Co F instead of Co A. His brother John was in Co F, 18th Wisconsin Infantry. He is buried in Wisconsin.
