Description	:	John Frederick Meck was born in Sandusky, Ohio, April 13, 1853, and died in Holton, Kansas, Feb. 22, 1919, aged 65 years, 10 months and 9 days. In his boyhood days he, with his parents moved to the state of Michigan, where he was educated in the public schools and afterward took a college course at Northwestern College. Read More	John Frederick Meck was born in Sandusky, Ohio, April 13, 1853, and died in Holton, Kansas, Feb. 22, 1919, aged 65 years, 10 months and 9 days. In his boyhood days he, with his parents moved to the state of Michigan, where he was educated in the public schools and afterward took a college course at Northwestern College. At Flint, Mich., he learned the trade of cabinet maker. After completing his trade, he and George Schilling, came to Holton in 1879 and opened furniture and undertaking business. About twenty years later this partnership was dissolved, Mr. Meck retaining the undertaking part of the business. With the exception of a few years, he steadily engaged in this business until last year, when it was taken over by C. W. Porterfield. In 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Strohwig of Holton. To this union was born one daughter, now Mrs. William Stous and one son Frankie, who died in infancy. Mrs. Meck's health failed and in 1887 she passed to her home beyond. In the year 1891 he was joined in wedlock to Miss Catherine Gabel of this city. This union was blessed with one daughter, Dorothy Marie, and one son, JOhn Grayton. Besides his widow and three children, he is survived by one sister, Miss Leah Meck and on brother, Mr. Samuel Meck, both of Evanston, Ill and four grandchildren. The deceased was the son of an Evangelical minister, Rev. John Meck...united with the Evangelical Association....He served his church for a period of thirty years as superintendent of the Sunday School, and for a number of years was a member of the official board of the church...a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Fraternal Aid Union and the Woodmen of the World...the residence 608 West 4th Street. Those who attened the funeral from out of town were Samuel and Leah Meck of Evanston, Ill.; Albert and William Strohwig from Paxico, Kan., and Mrs. Emma Hichson, of Atchison, Kans. The Holton Recorder, February 27, 1919 John F. Meck married Catherine Cabel on January 31, 1891 in Holton, Jackson County, Kansas.
