Read More	Concord Monitor - (Nov/15/2005) CENTER HARBOR -- John Frederick Starrett, 72, of Waukewan Road, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at home. Born in Boston, July 25, 1933, he was the son of Frederick and Minetta (McLellan) Starrett. He was raised in Redstone. He was educated in and graduated from the Conway school system. As a well-remembered scholar and athlete, he took great pride in having been the quarterback of the 1950 Kennett High School Eagles championship football team, as they remained undefeated and un-scored upon. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After completing his service, he returned to New Hampshire and enrolled in the University of New Hampshire in Durham. It was there that he and his wife, Nancy, met, were married in 1957, and graduated together in 1958. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration. He continued his education in finance at Brown University in Providence, R.I. John began his banking career at the Carroll County Trust Co. in Conway. He moved to Concord to assume the duties of branch manager of the Concord Savings Bank and was promoted to senior vice president of the bank. It was there, on High Street, in Concord that he and Nancy made their home for many years and raised their three daughters. In the 1980s, he became the president of the Kingswood Bank and Trust in Wolfeboro. In 1985, he was offered the position of vice president of the Meredith Village Savings Bank in Meredith. It was then they moved to their home on Waukewan Road in Center Harbor. In the following years, he took on the presidency of Meredith Village Savings Bank, and though he retired in 1999, he continued to serve on the board of trustees of Meredith Village Savings Bank, Charter Trust Company, CRDC, and others. John was a member of the First Congregational Church of Meredith, a past member of the Concord Kiwanis Club, a member of the Meredith Rotary Club and recipient of the Rotary's Paul Harris Fellowship Award. He and Nancy were tireless workers toward the success of the annual Rotary Club Fishing Derby. He was involved in many charitable and community activities, including the exchange student program. John enjoyed many hobbies, such as fishing, drawing intricate sketches, creating remarkable stone walls and refurbishing old tools. He will be remembered for his warm manner, his bright smile, his hard work, his love of his community and its people, his time at the camp on the lake and his dogs Gypsy and Duchess. Above all, he will be remembered for his devotion to his family, wife of 48 years, Nancy, his daughters, their husbands and his precious grandchildren. John was the husband of 48 years of the late Nancy Elizabeth (Garland) Starrett, who died Aug. 17, 2005. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Peter and Everett Starrett, when he was a child. Survivors include three daughters, Pamela and her husband, Peter Ingalls, and grandsons Hugh, Ned, and William, of Battle Creek Mich.; Judith Bell and her husband, Marc, and grandchildren, Christopher and Elizabeth Catherine (Zoe), of St. Leon, Germany; and Catherine Silver and her husband, Glen, of Meredith; his mother-in-law, Alice R. Garland of Campton; and three brothers-in-law and their families, Robert Garland of Plymouth, John Garland of Campton and Steve Garland of Campton. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mayhew Funeral Home, Routes 3 and 104, Meredith. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Meredith, where the Rev. Russell Rowland, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held at Conway Village Cemetery in Conway.
