Description	:	John Goehner came to the United States in 1869 and soon after came from St. Louis to Nebraska City. In 1873, he came to Seward where he lived until his death. On January 13, 1875, he married Dore Vonder Ohe from Hanover, Germany. This union was blessed with nine children, two of whom preceded them in death. John was a charter member of St. John's Church and was one of the four members who donated the land where the Missouri Synod Lutheran Seminary (now known as Concordia University) was built. In 1873, he came to Seward where he lived until his death. On January 13, 1875, he married Dore Vonder Ohe from Hanover, Germany. This union was blessed with nine children, two of whom preceded them in death. John was a charter member of St. John's Church and was one of the four members who donated the land where the Missouri Synod Lutheran Seminary (now known as Concordia University) was built. Later, he served as a board member of the college. He was also active in bringing the railroad to Seward and because of this, the town of Goehner was named after him. He was active in getting a law passed in regard to Mutual Fire Agencies and was with the management of the Mutual Protective Fire Association. He was a successful business man and served as a member of the Nebraska State Senate in 1885.
