CHRISTIE, 85, of 6730 DeBold Road, Sabillasville, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday May 28, 2001, in Martinsburg V A Center. He had been in failing health for the past several years and critically ill for the past two months. Born Nov. 27, 1915, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late John W. and Marion (Gates) Christie. He lived his early life in Washington. He and Jane W. (Wade) Christie, his wife of more than 57 years, were married Oct. 22, 1943, in Westminster, Md. They had lived at their present residence since June 1946. He was a 1936 graduate of McKinley Technical High School in Washington. He also graduated from Delehaunty Institute in New York, where he studied diesel theory. Mr. Christie was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He received the Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster, American Theater Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal and one Bronze Service Star. He was first employed as a motorcycle messenger for the U.S. government, then was a mail carrier for the post office in Lantz, Md. He became a diesel mechanic at Fort Ritchie and later worked for Ben's Esso Gas Station, Thurmont. He then was employed by the State of Maryland as a counselor at Victor Cullen before returning to Fort Ritchie, where he was a mechanic until retiring in 1972. He was member of the Germantown Church of God, Cascade, where he taught the Boys' Sunday School Class for a short time, he was a member of the Golden Gleaners Sunday School Class. Mr. Christie was a member of the national AARP. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Faye Anne Worth of Sabillasville, Susan Jane Knill of Walkersville, Md., and Dome E. Walls of New Oxford; five grandchildren; one step-grandson; and one step-great-grandson. He was the last of his immediate family. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Germantown Church of God, 16924 Raven Rock Road, Cascade, with Pastor Paul Tobias officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to Germantown Church of God Youth Program, 16924 Raven Rock Road, Cascade, Md. 21719.
