Read More	LeMars Semi-Weekly Sentinel (LeMars, Iowa) April 17, 1917 A large circle of relatives and friends mourn the passing of Mr. John Gerling, who died at his home on 1205 Cedar street, Thursday afternoon, April 12, at 4:15 o'clock, from an affection of the heart from which he had suffered for the past few years. The funeral services were held Sunday, April 15. After a brief service at the home at 12 o'clock which was conducted by Rev. A. T. Sager, from Greenville, Ill., assisted by Rev. Blackman and Rev. J. K. Hawkins, of LeMars, the remains were taken to Ireton and the regular services held in the M. E. church of that place, and were conducted by Rev. Hawkins, assisted by the local pastor. Interment was made in the Ireton cemetery, by the side of his wife, who preceded him eleven years previous. The pallbearers were T. Boland, Sr., F. M. Roseberry, E. A. Dalton, A. C. Demaray and E. Mulder, all of whom reside in this city, and John Rankin, of Ireton. The honorary pallbearers were F. Nanninga, Sr., H. Braaks, Sr., T. White, E. A. Day, John Vlotho and John Satterlee, all of Ireton. The surviving members of the family are Aaron J. and Miss Edith, son and daughter; Mrs. M. Classen, of Clare City, Minn., Mrs. Ullman, of Great Medlow, Germany, sisters; Johan Gerling of Pewsum, Germany, and Hedde Gerling, of Ireton, Iowa, brothers. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were J. E. Boganreif, of Olmstead, S. D.; W. O. Bogenreif, of Merrill; D. O. Bogenreif, of Westfield; J. O. Bogenreif, of Garretson, S. D., and Rev. S. A. Sager, of Greenville, Ill., and W. N. Sulser, of Des Moines, Iowa. The following obituary is furnished us by a friend of the family: John Gerling was born in Pewsum Amt. Emden, Germany, July 21, 1850. As soon as he arrived at school age he had the benefit of the German schools until he reached the age of fourteen when he commenced working on a farm. During his early childhood he received the usual religious training according to the teachings of the German Lutheran church.
