Description	:	John, being the baby of the family, did not have to work as hard as his brother Willis. He evidently did not care for farmwork and spent much of his time reading. Reading did not satisfy his mind and soul, but fanned the flames of ambition. He attended the McFaddin School just across the creek and the Sardinia High School where he graduated in 1898. Reading did not satisfy his mind and soul, but fanned the flames of ambition. He attended the McFaddin School just across the creek and the Sardinia High School where he graduated in 1898. He also attended the local Normal School in Georgetown and taught several terms at the McFaddin School. He entered Ohio State University in 1902, taking preparatory courses in order to study law. During his first year in college he found a place in the church choir and other musical organizations, as he had at home, participating only for the pleasure he found in singing and not thinking of making it a life study. During the next year the possibilities of a magnificent tenor voice became apparent and his musical friends insisted that he turn his study in the direction of music, which he did. His singing was much sought at receptions and social functions in Columbus. This unexpected turn caused him to give up the notion of law and in October of the next year he entered the Institute of Musical Art New York City under the management of Dr. Frank Damrosch. His teacher in New York spoke of him as being a student of great promise. However, his success in the musical world was short lived. He was evidently trying to cut down on expenses and while prepareing his own dinner he got hold of a can of tainted food and was stricken with botulin poison, and died April 9, 1907 in New York City Hospital. John was not only musical but also wrote poetry and some of it was accepted for publication. His obituary closed with is poem which he had written: "Cultivate the beautiful, cherish what is pure, emulate the faithful, nourish what is sure, work for what is truthful, verigy the right; live for what is useful, glorify the light."
