Read More	Grant County Press, Thursday, February 24, 1944 FAMILIAR FIGURE OF JOHN GROVES IS SEEN NO MORE SERVICE HELD MONDAY FOR ONE WHO WAS PART OF LOCAL SCENE MANY YEARS Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the local United Brethren Church for John Groves, 79-year-old retired farmer, whose death last Friday February 18, 1944 in the home of a daughter in Cumberland came at the close of three weeks spent in the hospital there because of a kidney disorder. The pastor of the church, the Rev. Daniel L. Newman, with Elder Peter I. Garber of the Brethren Church, assisted in the service at which the Rev. Miss Ida Judy delivered the funeral address. Burial was made Tuesday morning in the Lahmansville Cemetery. Was A Familiar Figure Here Born in 1865 in the Ridge country near Maysville and son of the late Alexander and Susan Keplinger Groves, he was the last in a family of six children. He married Mahala Jane Groves in November, 1884, and with her moved to town some twenty years ago where, until last winter when he took over janitorial work at the local U. B. and Presbyterian churches, he served in similar capacity at the graded school in close association with many youngsters now grown into maturity. Sons, Daughters Survive Together with other relatives and close friends he is survived by the following children: Mrs. C. O. Turner of Hanover, Pa.; Mrs. Earl Trenton of Keyser; Mrs. H. C. Trenton of Cumberland; Mrs. Fletcher Thompson of Cumberland; Mrs. Olin Weese of Idaville, Ind.; Clarence Groves of Ravenna, Ohio; and Thomas Groves of Maysville.
