Description	:	John H. Phillips Formerly of Guthrie Center John H. Phillips was born June 17, 1916 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He passed away at the age of 94 on April 26, 2011. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 11 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. the same day. John was raised in the Guthrie Center, Iowa area. He left school after the 11th grade to help his father farm. On December 23, 1936 he married Ilene Sloss. Phillips was born June 17, 1916 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He passed away at the age of 94 on April 26, 2011. John was raised in the Guthrie Center, Iowa area. He left school after the 11th grade to help his father farm. On December 23, 1936 he married Ilene Sloss. They moved to California right away where John worked on the Friant-Kern Canal but within six months moved back to the Guthrie Center area to farm and be closer to family. John lived in Menlo, Iowa where he and Ilene ran the Service Station, cafe, and tank truck. He moved his family to Missouri Valley, Iowa in 1964 where he ran his own tank trucks and oil business called J and I Oil Company. He then retired in 1981 moving back to Guthrie Center, Iowa. In October of 2010 John and Ilene moved to Mill Pond, Assisted Living in Ankeny, Iowa. John was a 50 year member of the Masons, he loved to fish, nobody was a stranger to him, and he always had a joke to tell. John was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mabel Phillips (Huston); his step-mother Beula Phillips (Williams); his sister, Mildred Lauritzen; his son, Edward Phillips; and infant twins, Orville and Orvella. He was survived by his wife, Ilene; his son, Eldon Phillips; brother, Bill Phillips, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Twigg Funeral Home is orchestrating the funeral arrangements.
