Description	:	John lived on the 375 acres in Salem Twp that his father bought until 1885. In 1877 he and his brother Benjamin purchased 96 acres of land in section 35, Tippecanoe Township and in 1885 he purchased his brother's interest in the farm, on which he was residing in 1888. He was extensively engaged in farming and stock-raising, making a specialty of breeding Merino sheep. He served on the Board of Trustees of the township and was also secretary of the school board.
