Description	:	John Hamilton was a native of Canada, but possibly born in Ireland or Scotland. He married Catharine Miller, a native of New York, in abt 1823/1824 in Ontario Canada. John and Catherine had at 8 children; Joseph, David Miller (a doctor), William, Stephen (served with the 4th Iowa Cavalry), James Drake (served with the 11th Iowa Infantry) were all born in Ontario Canada. Between 1833 and 1839 the family moved to the U.S. and daughter Celestia was born in Louisa County, Iowa, in 1939. Between 1833 and 1839 the family moved to the U.S. and daughter Celestia was born in Louisa County, Iowa, in 1939. George, the youngest, was born in Louisa County, Iowa in 1843 and served with the 22nd Iowa Infantry. John died in 1948 in Louisa County, Iowa at the age of 48 years. Catherine stayed in Louisa County with daughter Celestia (Manley) and family and son George through 1865. She then moved to Fremont County, Iowa with Celestia and family about 1865. Her other children had also moved to Fremont County with the exception of her youngest, George, who married and stayed. Catherine died in 1880 at the age of 81 years.
