THE SENTINEL-POST Shenandoah, Iowa Monday, Oct 16, 1916 Stephen Hamilton Essex Old Soldier, 82, was Grandfather of Chas. Hamilton who was with Co E on Border. Essex, Oct 16 -- Stephen Hamilton, 82 years old, died at his home here Friday night at 11 o'clock. The funeral was conducted yesterday at 2 o'clock at the Presbyterian church. The deceased was an old soldier and was an uncle of Charles A. Hamilton of Shenandoah and grandfather of Charles Hamilton who was a member of Company E of Shenandoah at Brownsville, Texas, but who returned home several weeks ago. The deceased leaves a son and daughter who are grown and with whom he made his home. Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton of Shenandoah attended the funeral. THE SENTINEL-POST Shenandoah, Iowa Wednesday, Oct 18, 1916 Essex Items - Friday night ocurred [sic] the death of Steven Hamilton, aged 86 years. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church and interment was made in Essex cemetery.
