Description	:	Eldest son of Martha Bennett and her first husband Henry Hampton Covington. Stepson and nephew of James H. Covington. On 23 May 1869, John married Martha Jane McKay with whom he had six children. He died in September 1879 of paralysis at age 31. One child died very young, as Jane reports in the 1900 US Federal Census that she had six children and five were living. In 1892, John's widow Jane remarried to a neighboring farmer, Elisha C. Terry. She is buried at nearby Bear Branch Cemetery next to Elisha. The small Covington family graveyard contains only five known graves, of which two are unmarked. John and his mother are in the unmarked graves. His stepfather James H.
