Description	:	From Alpheus Harlan's History and Genealogy of the Harlan Family, p. 240: John was a farmer, a Disciple of christ, born March 6, 1794, in Union District, South Carolina. Removed with his parens from there into Barren, Now Monroe Co., Kentuckey, in 1796, and from there in 1815, to and settled in (now) Union co., Indiana. He married there, on October 13, 1815 in Franklin Co. Removed with his parens from there into Barren, Now Monroe Co., Kentuckey, in 1796, and from there in 1815, to and settled in (now) Union co., Indiana. He married there, on October 13, 1815 in Franklin Co. Mrs. Catherine Brown Harlan, a Baptist, born July 10, 1783 in Union District, South Carolina, a daughter of Mathew and Jane Jones Brown, and she was the widow of George Harlan (#705), of Union Co., Indiana. John and Catherine remained upon a farm in Union Co. until 1851, when they emigrated to Van Buren Co., Iowa, near Wilsonville, where they remained the balance of their lives. John died there July 6, 1875, and Catherine died December 30, 1875. Both were buried ther in the Spencer Burying Grounds. Issue: Anna, George, Nathan, Elihu, Mathew and Edith Jane Harlan.
